Ultrasound
Ultrasound is a common modality used in physical therapy to promote healing and alleviate pain in soft tissues, such as muscles, tendons, and ligaments. Ultrasound therapy involves the use of high-frequency sound waves that penetrate deep into the tissue and cause a warming effect. This warming effect helps to increase blood flow to the affected area, which can speed up healing and reduce inflammation. Ultrasound can also be used to break up scar tissue and adhesions, improve range of motion, and reduce pain. A physical therapist may use ultrasound therapy as a standalone treatment or in combination with other modalities, such as exercise, manual therapy, and electrical stimulation, to optimize treatment outcomes.
